Fuel Price Today: Petrol and diesel prices held steady again on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 for a complete four months now. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced an excise duty cut on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and on diesel by Rs 6 per litre on May 21. Following the same, the Maharashtra government announced a Value-Added Tax (VAT) cut on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 per litre and Rs 3 per litre, respectively.
Today, petrol price in Delhi stands at Rs 96.72 per litre, while diesel price in Delhi is Rs 89.62 per litre. Petrol price in Mumbai is Rs 106.31 per litre and diesel price stands at Rs 94.27 per litre. The Meghalaya government increased the VAT on petrol and diesel on August 24. Petrol price in Shillong is Rs 96.83 per litre, while diesel costs Rs 84.72 per litre.

Public sector Oil Marketing Companies, such as Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) set the fuel prices daily in line with foreign exchange rates and international benchmark prices. Retail petrol and diesel prices differ from state to state because of local taxes like VAT or freight charges.
