Compact cars like Baleno, Celerio, Wagon R, Swift, etc constituted the highest sales numbers in all categories, with 67,947 units sold in the month of May 2022. Compact cars were followed by Utility Vehicles (Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza, XL6) with 28,051 units sold. On third came entry-level cars Alto & S-Presso – 17,408 units of which were sold combined.
In total, Maruti Suzuki managed to sell 1,24,474 passenger vehicles in the domestic market. Additionally, 3,526 units of the Super Carry Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) takes the number of total domestic sales to 1,28,000. While the numbers are significantly higher than the same month last year, it would be unfair to make a year-on-year comparison given the operations of the company were affected due to COVID-19 related disruptions.
As of now, the company is working on at least two new cars for the Indian market, i.e. the new-gen Brezza, as well as a mid-size SUV that will become the company’s flagship SUV offering in the country. While the 2022 Brezza is expected to make its debut this month, the Hyundai Creta-rivalling SUV is expected to debut ahead of the festival season this year.
