Mercedes-AMG ONE breaks cover: Most powerful Mercedes ever with Formula 1 tech – Times of India

Mercedes-AMG has finally debuted its most powerful road-legal car ever – the ‘ONE’ hypercar. The ONE has been five years in the making, and its debut marks the 55th anniversary of the AMG performance and sports car brand. The Mercedes-AMG ONE will be seen in action for the first time in the UK, as part of the Festival of Speed at Goodwood between 23 and 26 June 2022.
The two-seat hypercar draws power from a 1.6-litre V6 hybrid turbocharged petrol engine with electrically assisted single-turbocharging corresponding in its technology to the current Formula 1 power unit. The mid-mounted engine revs up to 11,000 rpm, works in tandem with a total of four electric motors, together producing a mouth-watering 1063 hp of peak power with a top speed capped at 352 kmph. It can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 2.9 seconds, and 0 to 200 kmph in just 7 seconds.

The ONE also gets Mercedes‘ AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive system with hybrid-driven rear axle and electrically driven front axle with torque vectoring. The hypercar can also drive purely electrically. One electric motor has been integrated into the turbocharger, another has been installed directly on the combustion engine with a link to the crankcase and the two remaining motors drive the front wheels. The front axle is thus driven purely electrically.
It comes equipped with a 8.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which provides a purely electric range of 18.1 km. Charging is via alternating current and the integrated 3.7 kW on-board charger. In addition, Mercedes says that the battery can be supplied with fresh energy via recuperation or from the combustion engine.

Apart from the drivetrain, there are also other instances of Mercedes-AMG using motorsport technology, including the carbon-fibre monocoque chassis and carbon-fibre body to the load‑bearing engine/transmission unit, active aerodynamics and the push-rod suspension. The ONE gets a newly developed 7-speed transmission with a hydraulically-controlled 4-disc carbon‑fibre clutch.
The Mercedes-AMG ONE starts silently at first by switching on the electric motors on the front axle. In parallel, the catalytic converters are preheated, and the combustion engine does not start until the optimum catalytic converter temperature is reached. The ONE gets six drive modes – Race Safe, Race, EV (all-electric), Individual, as well as Race Plus and Strat 2 race track only modes.
The Strat 2 mode corresponds to a setting used in Formula 1 qualifying for the best possible lap times. This mode activates firmer chassis tuning, lowers the vehicle by 37 mm (front)/30 mm (rear), and sends full power from all electric motors. There are also three aerodynamic levels to choose from, namely Highway, Track, and Race DRS (Drag Reduction System).

The car comes with exclusive 10-spoke forged aluminium wheels with centre lock, while 9-spoke magnesium forged wheels are optional. The wheels are wrapped in 285/35 ZR 19 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R M01 tyres at the front, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R M01 tyres in size 335/30 ZR 20 at the rear.
The production of the Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar is limited to just 275 units – all of which have already been sold out at a staggering price of around $2.7 million each.
