Nissan Magnite bookings cross 1 lakh in India: The car that saved Nissan India – Times of India

Nissan Motor India announced that its Nissan Magnite sub-compact SUV has crossed 1 lakh bookings in the Indian market. Introduced in December 2020, the Magnite SUV played a vital role in saving the Japanese car manufacturer’s future in India with large sales volume. Before Magnite’s introduction Nissan was struggling with low sales leading pointing towards an unsustainable business but all that changed quickly with the launch of the Magnite.
Launched at an aggressive price of Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the sub-compact SUV undercut its rivals, including Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Kia Sonet. Within last 2 years, the Magnite SUV has received a price hike and is now available at a starting price of Rs 5.88 lakh and goes up to Rs 10.55 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom, pan-India).
Owing to a good set of features, bold styling and two petrol mills, the Nissan Magnite became the popular choice among Indian customers. The SUV received around 32,000 bookings within a month of launch and nearly 78,000 bookings in January 2022. In March this year, the brand rolled out the 50,000th Magnite from its manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu. Recently, the SUV received a 4-star rating in the Global NCAP and ASEAN NCAP safety test programs.
On the feature front, the top variants come equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument console, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, push start/stop button and keyless entry amongst others.
The Nissan Magnite is powered by a 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine producing 71 hp power, while a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine produces 99 hp power. A 5-speed manual and a CVT gearbox are on offer.
