4,843 active cases as positivity rate rises to 8.18%
The number of Covid hospitalisations in the city touched 223 on Friday, higher than the peak number during the April-May surge of 192 on May 5 — 62 in ICU and 59 on oxygen. By May 11, that number had declined to 161. The last time when the overall patient load across all hospitals remained above 100 was on May 23. From the end of May till June 9 the number of patients at hospitals remained between 60 to 80.
As per the Covid data, again from June 11 onwards, the patient load at hospitals started going up as Delhi started witnessing a spike in Coronavirus cases from June 7 onwards. On June 13, the number of Covid patients at hospitals had increased to 122.
With the new cases on Friday, the active case load in the city went up to 4,843 of which 2,850 were under home isolation. As of June 17, a total number of 19,19,025 have been infected with the virus while the city has recorded 26,226 deaths. The capital’s daily test positivity rate has been climbing in tandem with the rise in cases. Friday’s TPR of 8.2% was the highest recorded this month. The TPR was 6.7% on Thursday and 7% on Wednesday. On Monday, it was slightly higher at 7.06%.
After the third countrywide wave of the Coronavirus in January, cases in the capital started rising again from the middle of April. Towards the end of the month, from April 21 onwards, Delhi was registering more than 1,000 cases every day. The active case load at the end of April stood at 5,716. Despite the number being higher than what it is at present, the number of patients admitted at hospital was 152, with 48 in ICU, 49 in support of oxygen including two patients on ventilator.
“Only one Covid positive patient came yesterday and the person has got a lung condition. The rest of those are incidental positive patients who are already admitted for other health concerns. And they have hypertension, diabetes and other comorbidities,” said Dr Subhash Giri, medical director, GTB Hospital. “We mostly have mild symptoms patients with some paediatric cases as well. However, all of them are stable and nothing to worry about. No one is admitted at ICU or on ventilation,” said Father George PA, director, Holy Family Hospital.
