MUMBAI: BMC‘s education department has declared 269 schools as ‘illegal’ in the academic year 2022-23. Five of these schools have made it to the list only this year while the others had been in the list last year too.
BJP leader Nitesh Rane had written to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray about the unauthorised schools.
Last year, of the 283 schools that were found ‘illegal’, 11 had shut down. Four of the schools later obtained affiliation to National Institute of Open Schooling while four other schools got permission from the state to run on a self-financed basis under Maharashtra Self-Financed Schools Act.
Mira-Bhayander’s civic body has declared seven schools ‘unauthorised’ for academic year 2022-23.
