PANAJI: PWD minister Nilesh Cabral said on Friday that the Zuari bridge accident that took place early on Thursday morning was due to “speeding”. “The railing is for pedestrians to hold, and barricades are to hold vehicles travelling at 30kmph,” he said.
Cabral said that people have to adhere to rules and regulations. “Overtaking on bridges is not allowed, and if somebody is doing it, it is at his own risk and cost. The government cannot be held accountable for every incident on the road,” he said.
The PWD minister said that the state government is considering an automatic monitoring mechanism to check overspeeding, overtaking and other violations, and challans will be sent to the residence of the violator.
