Cattle Smuggler Injured In Encounter, Arrested | Kanpur News – Times of India

Kanpur: Police station incharge and a cow smuggler were injured in an encounter in Ghatampur area of the district late on Sunday night. However, his two accomplices managed to escape.
The police said they received a tip-off about the presence of cow smugglers in the vicinity for slaughtering of animals under the jurisdiction of Ghatampur police station.
“When a police team, headed by Ghatampur police station incharge SK Singh tried to arrest them, the three cow smugglers opened fire.
One out of the three criminals, and the police station incharge were injured in firing during the encounter. Police have arrested a cow smuggler identified as Dilshad while the remaining two criminals managed to escape,” said circle officer Ghatampur Sushil Kumar Dubey.
“Both, the Ghatampur police station incharge and injured cow smuggler have been admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai hospital,” he said.
An investigation into the matter is underway, said CO further adding, “We have recovered tools with the help of which the cattle smugglers were about to slaughter animals. Forensic experts have been roped in to collect evidence from the spot. Separate teams have been formed to nail down the smugglers, who managed to flee the spot.”
An FIR has been lodged against the smuggler and his accomplices under the relevant IPC sections. Once the smuggler recovers, the police will send him to jail, said an investigating official.
