Continual Rain Leaves Villages Marooned | Rajkot News – Times of India

Rajkot: Saurashtra and Kutch continued to reel under monsoon fury on Friday with heavy rain leaving several villages marooned and throwing normal life out of gear.
In Kutch, a woman identified as Hasina Raima, who had gone to buy milk in Mandvi town on Thursday evening, was swept away in the turbulent water. Her body was recovered late in the night. A 21 year old man, Vijay Maheshwari of Mundra, drowned in Narmada canal where he had gone to take bath.
The downpour was particularly harsh in Devbhumi Dwarka, Kutch and Junagadh districts. Large number of vehicles and livestock were swept away as streets and roads got heavily flooded.
A causeway in Bara village of Abdasa was also damaged and the village was cut from the taluka place.
In Junagadh district, Visavadar taluka was pounded by nearly 100mm rainfall of which 65mm was recorded in just two hours of the morning. The downpour continued in Manavadar, Junagadh, Mendarda and Vanthli talukas on Friday. There was heavy waterlogging in a natural drain near Zanzarda in Junagadh city in which a car got trapped, while two buses of state transport got entrenched in a pit dug for an underground gutter near Motibaug circle.
In Amreli district, continous rain in Babrak, Kukavav, Vadiya and Lathi resulted in roads getting inundated and trees also got uprooted due to strong winds.
Villagers in Korda in Devbhumi Dwarka district pulled out a car by tying it with a rope to a truck.
The heavy rain disrupted normal life in Gondal and Upleta towns of Rajkot district. There was knee-deep water on the roads of Upleta town.
