NOIDA: The district legal services authority (DLSA) on Monday inspected the juvenile home in Noida and pledged to provide free legal services to inmates who can’t afford a lawyer. Currently, 142 juveniles are in the observation home, mostly from Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad and Saharanpur.
“We have issued necessary guidelines to the juvenile home superintendent for betterment of the child observation home. Free legal aid will be given to juveniles who can’t afford a lawyer,” said Jaihind Kumar Singh, secretary, DLSA, Gautam Budh Nagar, who led the inspected team on Monday.
Singh also attended a legal awareness camp where he informed the inmates about the legal rights of a “child in conflict with law” and the provisions contained under the Pocso Act and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
The district legal services authority secretary also enquired about the food provided to the “child in conflict with law”. “It was found that for breakfast, all the juveniles take milk, paratha, banana; at lunch and dinner, they take rice, roti, dal, vegetables and salad,” another official said.
