Surat: Districts in south Gujarat witnessed heavy rain on Friday. Few villages got cut off from each other after low-level bridges got submerged in Valsad and Navsari districts.
Kaprada in Valsad district received the highest 208mm of rain while Vansada in Navsari received 164mm of rain. Dharampur in Valsad received 136mm of rain. In Tapi district, 153mm of rain in Vyara and 150mm of rain in Dolvan was reported.
At Kanjan Ranchhod village in Valsad, a portion of the shed made with earthen tiles and wooden frame crashed at the government primary school. No one suffered injuries though around 155 students were present at the school.
“The structure is old and due to rain, the shed collapsed. Demolition of the existing school building had been ordered after the structure was found unfit. Development of a new school building was ordered in the recent past and it is in process,” said an education department official. In Navsari district, 141mm in Chikhli and 109mm of rain in Khergam was reported. The low-level bridge near Ozar village was submerged in water while a bridge across Aurang river was submerged in Navsari.
In Surat district too, heavy rain was reported as Mahuva received 157mm, Umrpada 125mm, Bardoli 102mm and Mandvi 97mm. Surat city received 95mm.
Inflow of water was 33,568 cusec in Ukai dam and the water level was at 315.75 feet. Inflow of water in Madhuban dam was 39,507 cusec and 32,831 cusec of water was being released from the dam.
