MANGALURU: Sand buyers in Dakshina Kannada will have a helpline to report their grievances, related to the supply of the building material, in the district soon. Deputy commissioner K V Rajendra directed mines and geology department deputy director B M Lingaraj to start a new helpline immediately.
Chairing an official meeting on Friday, the DC directed officials to ensure speedy supply of sand to buyers in the district.
“We have sand stocks at Adyapady, on the banks of the Phalguni River, and in the backwaters of the Nethravathi River at Shambhoor in Bantwal taluk. Those stocks should be supplied to buyers on time,” the DC directed officials.
On the Maralu Mitra app, the deputy commissioner said that buyers also have the option to check the quality of sand, and advance booking online. People should make use of the online facility, he said, and directed officials to create awareness on the new options available among people.
“The mines and geology department should compulsorily submit weekly reports on quantity of sand available in the district, bookings received and data of supply, with the details of those who received the sand. Special care should be taken while transporting sand in trucks, especially in residential areas, and on roads to schools. CCTV cameras should be installed at all sand mining areas in the district, and vehicles transporting sand should be equipped with GPS,” the deputy commissioner said.
