MYSURU: Even while chief minister Basavaraj Bommai skipped events at T Narsipur, his ministerial colleague ST Somashekar, who is also minister in charge of Mysuru district, faced the ire of Congress workers who waved black flags at him during his visit.
Bommai was scheduled toinaugurate various religious events at Tirpura Sundari temple in T Narsipur taluk. In his absence, Somashekar launched them. While Somashekar was heading to the event, a group of Congress workers on Kollegal road waved black flags at him. Police tried to prevent them.
Wary of trouble, police had beefed up security for the minister and at the event. Mysuru City police too had enhanced the security at the events attended by the district minister.
However, the minister questioned continued protests by Congress workers saying the government has acted against the person who threweggs at opposition leader Siddaramaiah’s convoy in Kodagu last week and while Bommai has spoken to the former CM. Speaking to reporters, Somashekar said Bommai has called up Siddaramaiah and has told him the government will not allow such incidents to recur. But Congress activists have continued their protests, which is not right, he said
