OPS demands action against online gambling, lottery sales in TN | Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam has urged the Tamil Nadu government to take concrete steps to ban online gambling and curb lottery sales which were affecting many families.
In a statement on Friday, OPS said gambling had brought many families to the streets. Late chief minister J Jayalalithaa banned lottery sales in 2003, and it is still in vogue, but illegal lottery sales are rampant in many parts of the state now, he said.
Chief minister M K Stalin promised to check online gambling, but nothing seems to have been done, said OPS. Recently, Manikandan, an IT professional in Perungudi, who fell into a debt trap of Rs one crore due to online gambling, killed his family and self.
An armed reserve personnel in Ambattur shot himself due to gambling. Many such suicides and murders were taking place in the state, he said.
