Poles put up during revamp 4 years ago, but lights yet to be installed | Gurgaon News – Times of India

GURUGRAM: Poorly lit stretch between Sector 5 and Bhagat Singh Chowk has become a cause of concern for commuters and residents of the area, who pointed out that four years ago, the road was redeveloped and the streetlight poles on the 2km stretch were erected at that time, but the lights on them are yet to be installed on them.
Lack of streetlights, they say, has made the commute difficult post sunset as everybody fears for their safety. Even after multiple reminders, no measure has been taken by the civic authorities to ensure the installation of streetlights. Dinesh Vashisht, RWA president of sectors 3, 5 and 6 said it is dangerous to ride at night as the area turns dark. “Sometimes I have to drive at night for work but it is completely unsafe with no proper provision of lights. I have raised the matter several times with the concerned authorities but they remain oblivious. Dark spots always give free hands to criminals for mischief. I urge the authorities to install streetlights for the safety of the residents.”
Another stretch, between Bhagat Singh Chowk to Rezangla Chowk does have some streetlights but they don’t function properly, the residents claimed. Manoj Sharma, a resident of Sector 5 said, “This is among the main arterial road which connects our sector with other parts of the city but it is still not properly illuminated despite heavy traffic flow. The only source of illumination is the headlight of our vehicle. With winter coming in, there is always a chance of accidents due to fog. The authorities need to install the light on this stretch on priority.” When asked, a senior official of MCG said, “The matter was not brought to my knowledge, however, I will look into it and the needful will soon be done.”
