PUMTA meeting: Pune University flyover to be completed by end of January 2024 | Pune News – Times of India


PUNE: The demand to expedite and complete the construction of the integrated Pune University flyover by end of January 2024 instead of the scheduled November 2024 was accepted by the Pune Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority members on Thursday, said MLA Siddarth Shirole who attended the meeting.
He said that the updated plan will be shared by the PMRDA authorities in a week’s time.
The integrated flyover will have the flyover and metro line that is part of the 23 km Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar elevated metro line being implemented by the PMRDA.
The Pune Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (PMRDA)under Pune divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao was attended by all stakeholders on Thursday.
PMC commissioner Vikram Kumar, PMRDA commissioner Rahul Mahiwal and Pune collector Rajesh Deshmukh attended the meeting with all PMRDA officials, Traffic police, and Tata officials who are executing the project. Shirole has said that the updated execution plan will be shared within seven days. The PMRDA has been directed to put in extra manpower and technology to complete this stretch at the earliest.
Shirole had raised the issue of traffic congestion woes faced by citizens due to this infrastructure project in the assembly and had demanded a speedy execution by one local body. The state government had said that the PUMTA meeting can decide the way forward for this project.
“In the meeting of PUMTA called to discuss resolution of traffic congestion at University junction and other locations alternative routes including roads adjoining Chaturshrungi police stations and Vamincon will be opened up to decongest while the construction is on,” tweeted the MLA. He said that he has asked the Pune city traffic police to become extra vigilant and increase experienced police personnel to ensure strict adherence to traffic rules by commuters.
Both PMC and PWD have been directed to speed up the repairing of potholes in this stretch and widen the road wherever it is possible. Besides this TATA has been directed to prominently display boards that highlight the assured days to completion of the project, and the current construction timelines to help citizens understand the time frame of this project. Barricades will be there between October 2022 to April 2024 for carrying out the work.
Post Ganeshotsav, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has begun the work on the double-decker flyover at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) with the barricading work of 240 meters of the chowk.
The six-lane double-decker flyover is 881 meters, with a 260-meter ramp on the Aundh side, Baner will have a 140-meter side ramp while Pashan will be 135 meters and the Ganeshkhind side ramp will be 130 meters. While a new deadline has been set for the flyover, the entire 23 km metro line will be operational from April 2025
