Rail Min In Bjp Prez Poll Mgmt Team | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s inclusion in the BJP’s management team for presidential election is being keenly watched in Odisha. The former Odisha cadre IAS officer-turned-politician, who got elected to Rajya Sabha with BJD support, may play a role in securing Naveen Patnaik’s backing.
The BJD is in any way heavily inclined towards the NDA on the matter of presidential poll, after defence minister Rajnath Singh recently spoke to Naveen. Vaishnaw may work as a strong bridge between Naveen and the central BJP leadership on the issue, given his strong relationship with the Odisha chief minister.
In June 2019, Naveen backed Vaishanaw, a Rajasthan native and former IAS officer of Odisha cadre, as a BJP nominee in one of the seats for Rajya Sabha.
Odisha’s Sambit Patra also finds a place in the 14-member BJP team for the presidential election, scheduled on July 18. S
ources said Naveen may be among the proposers of the NDA nominee before he leaves on a week-long foreign tour later this month.
The BJD, with 21 MPs — 12 in Lok Sabha and 9 in Rajya Sabha — and 114 MLAs, has more than 31,000 votes in the electoral college.
