BENGALURU: Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday met Droupadi Murmu at her temporary residence in Delhi and congratulated her on being elected the 15th President of India.
He also distributed sweets at Jagannath Bhavan, the state party headquarters, to celebrate Murmu’s win. In a tweet before the meeting, Bommai said: “Heartiest congratulations to Mrs. Draupadi Murmu, who has made a new record by getting elected as the President of India with a huge majority in the election. A person from the lower strata of society occupying the highest post of the nation is a sign of our democracy’s success (sic).” Bommai was in Delhi to attend a farewell dinner hosted by Parliament for outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind. He will be back in Bengaluru on Saturday and return to Delhi on Sunday to attend the oath-taking ceremony on Monday. “I will meet Union ministers and party brass to discuss various issues including cabinet expansion,” Bommai said.
