TN shopkeeper refuses to serve SC children, arrested | Chennai News – Times of India

TENKASI: A shopkeeper and another man were arrested in Tenkasi district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday after the former asked a few Scheduled Caste children not to visit the shop.
A video of the shopkeeper in Panchankulam village refusing to serve the SC children was shared widely on social media platforms.
In the video, a few children from a government school in the area could be seen at the petty shop buying some snacks and candies. However, the shopkeeper asked the children from the particular area not to come to the shop anymore and to tell their parents the same too. He claimed that it was a decision taken at a village meeting and they must only buy from shops in another part of the village. The video was recorded by the shop owner Maheshwaran himself.
The Tenkasi district police took cognizance of the video. The KV Nallur police registered a case. The police arrested the shop owner Maheshwaran and Ramachandra Moorthy, both from the same caste, in connection with the case. Moorthy had allegedly been behind some tensions prevailing in the village between members of two castes, police said.
The shop was sealed by revenue department officials.
