Two Arrested For Vip Sim Fraud | Kanpur News – Times of India


Kanpur: The police here arrested two persons on Thursday for purchasing SIMs of VIP numbers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) by producing fake IDs and other forged documents and later selling them at premium rates ranging from Rs 1 lakh to 1.5 lakh. Mobiles, debit cards, rail passes, seven SIM cards and other documents of various companies have been recovered from the accused. Police were now investigating the CDR of the accused.
After getting information about issuance of the SIM cards of VIP mobile numbers on fake ID in BSNL’s office on the complaint of an employee Indresh Kumar, the police initiated investigation by registering an FIR under sections of fraud. After tracing the two accused with the help of surveillance, the police arrested them near the Jhadi Baba Tiraha on Thursday night. The arrested accused were brought to the police station. During interrogation, they identified themselves as Mohit Saini and Anil Kumar Saini, residents of Narnaul area in Mahendragarh district of Haryana. Police said that the arrested persons used to constantly track VIP numbers of BSNL that remained non-functional for a long time. Thereafter they used to go to the BSNL exchange of other districts and claim those numbers to be their company’s number. After knowing the name, they used to get the letter pad of the fake company made and produced them to the BSNL staff to procure SIMs.
Station house officer Amit Kumar Bhadana said, “The accused procured SIM card on fake ID and after running it for a few days, got it ported to another company and then sold it at premium rates.” On scanning their mobile phones, messages have been received to port the number from the month of June. “Two of the recovered SIM cards are in operation. Both the numbers are being traced,” he said. The SHO further said that the arrested accused used to constantly track VIP numbers of BSNL. “On getting the numbers closed for a long time, they used to go to the BSNL exchange of other districts and tell those numbers to be their company’s number. After knowing the name of the customer, they used to get the letterhead of the fake company made and later produced them to the BSNL employees to procure SIMs. The arrested accused said that they used to sell VIP SIM cards for Rs 1 lakh to 1.5 lakh,” he added.
The police further said that accused Mohit earlier worked in Vodafone and was well aware of the technicalities related to SIM card business. “Anil Saini told investigators that he was looking for a job after completing his M.Tech,” said the police further.
