Prayagraj: Authorities of Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, popularly called as UP Board, have embarked on a mission of creating email IDs of the students enrolled in class 9 to 12 in schools across the state which are affiliated to the Board.
This is being done on the instructions of the secondary education department wherein email IDs have been created of more than 1 crore students of 27,735 schools affiliated to the Board across the state.
Among the different benefits of the exercise, the foremost is the fact that it will allow the Board to interact directly with the students studying in different schools across the state. The Board will also be able to send the study material and content, etc., directly to the students as and when needed.
“The importance attached to this mission can be gauged from that fact that it was given a place in the 100-day action plan of chief minister Yogi Adityanath giving UP Board a target of making e-mail IDs of over 1.10 crore students of classes 9 to 12 enrolled in schools affiliated to it,” said a senior official of the state secondary education department.
As per the data available with the secondary education department, till July 4, email IDs of around 1,00,75,119 students had been made. Despite the closure of schools in May-June, making such a large number of email IDs is being considered a big achievement. Data show that there are 18 districts where cent percent email IDs of students have been made.
These districts include Baghpat, Ayodhya, Banda, Bijnor, Ghaziabad, Jalaun, Jhansi, Kasganj, Lakhimpur Kheri, Lalitpur, Mainpuri, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Rampur, Saharanpur, Mathura and Siddharthanagar.
However, state capital Lucknow along with Basti, Mau, Auraiya and Kushinagar are among the worst performing districts. At the bottom of the list is Kushinagar where out of 2,29,138 students, a mere 1,52,461 (66.54%) have got their IDs made. Similarly, out of 89,036 students of Auraiya, 69,534 (78.10%) while out of 1,96,211 students of Lucknow, just 1,53,462 (78.21%) students have got their email ids made. Prayagraj is at number 50 on the list among the 75 districts where out of 3,94,388 students, ids of 3,53,050 (89.52%) have been made.
Principal, KP Inter College, Civil Lines, Yogendra Singh said it was a welcome move as now the UP Board would be able to directly interact with students and even get their feedback on any issue it desires.
“Most students today have access to the internet through laptops, desktops and even mobile phones. Others access it through cyber cafes. In today’s smart digital world, this move is a timely step that would take communication between the Board and the students to a new level,” he added. Arunesh Awasthi, a class 9 student of Shiv Charan Das Kanhaiya Lal Inter College, Meerapur, said most of his classmates have access to the internet.
