Woman Booked Posthumously For Killing Her Son | Surat News – Times of India

Surat: In a rare case of posthumous trial, the city police booked a 30-year-old woman on Thursday for allegedly killing her two-year-old son. Deceased Chetna Gajera was booked based on a forensic science laboratory report which confirmed that she had poisoned the child.
The woman killed herself after killing her son, Ansh. A complaint in this regard was filed by Gajera’s brother Kaushik Sorathiya.
The woman and her son were found unconscious on the footpath near Zadafiya Circle in the Kapodra area of the city on May 18. They were shifted to a hospital where the mother was declared dead on arrival, while the boy died during treatment. Registering a case of accidental death, cops had then started investigation while the viscera samples collected from their boduies were sent for FSL investigation.
“Based on the report and final postmortem report, it was confirmed that Gajera had consumed poisonous tablets that were used for preserving food grains at home and she had also fed her toddler with the same tablets. The exact reason for the extreme step is yet not clear,” said a police officer.
The tablets were available at home when she went missing on May 18 without informing her husband. Not finding her at home, the family members searched for her and later, when they approached the police, they were shown photos of the unconscious woman and son who were found on the footpath.
Following identification, the family went to the hospital. Gajera’s husband works as a diamond artisan and since marriage she did not complain about harassment to her brother or family members.
During questioning, Sorathiya and other family members told the police that the woman did not have any marital discord with her husband. However, Sorathiya also claimed that his sister was of irritable nature and would get angry easily. Her nature did not change much after marriage, he said, adding that her nature could be responsible for her extreme step.
Police are investigating the reason why she had killed her son. Registering a case of murder, the police are investigation the case afresh.
