BENGALURU: A 70-year-old farmer drowned in a lake at Konaghatta village near Doddaballapur on Thursday evening while plucking lotus for Varamahalakshmi festival.
Police identified the deceased as Krishnappa, a resident of Konaghatta. The incident came to light on Thursday night after his family members noticed he was missing and started searching for him. One of the villagers informed the family that Krishnappa had gone towards the lake around 4pm.
The family members said that Krishnappa had left home saying he’d bring lotus from the lake. They rushed to the lake and found Krishnappa’s footwear and clothes on the banks. They, along with the villagers, started scouring the lake and were unable to trace him. Doddaballapur Rural police were informed about the incident.
On Friday morning, police started a search operation with the help of local swimmers using a coracle. Cops fished out Krishnappa’s body around 12.30pm and handed it over to his family after a postmortem at the government hospital in Doddaballapur. An unnatural death case has been registered. tnn
