Filmy Friday: Get ready for goosebumps, action & emotions as ‘Samrat Prithviraj’, ‘Vikram’ and ‘Major’ hit theatres

This Friday could not get any more filmy than this! The weekend is going to be packed with drama, action and emotions as three highly-anticipated films – ‘Samrat Prithviraj‘, ‘Vikram‘ and ‘Major‘ – have hit the silver screen in India.

The three pan-India films will witness Akshay Kumar, Sonu Sood, Manushi Chillar, Sanjay Dutt, Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi and Adivi Sesh create their magic inside the cinema halls. With such big releases coming out on the same day, it’s going to be an intense battle amongst the movies at the box-office.

It will be interesting to witness which film takes the cake and leads after the weekend box-office collections are in. Until then, here’s all you need to know about the Friday releases before you book your movie tickets.

‘Samrat Prithviraj’
Directed by film-maker Chandra Prakash Dwivedi, the film stars Akshay Kumar in the lead role as a fearless warrior. The film will take the audience on a grand saga of Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan, king from the Chauhan dynasty who ruled the territory of Sapadalaksha.

The film also stars Manushi Chhillar, who plays the role of princess Sanyogita. ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ marks Chhillar’s Bollywood debut. The epic love saga also stars Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood in pivotal roles.

The action thriller by film-maker Lokesh Kanagaraj marks the much-awaited return of veteran star Kamal Haasan to the silver screen. ‘Vikram’ follows a black ops cop who goes after a mysterious gang of masked men after a series of murders of police official. The masked men have declared a war against the system.

Haasan plays the role of Amar, who is assigned to investigate the serial killings. The film also stars Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil. ‘Vikram’ had already earned Rs 200 crore as per reports in sales of TV and OTT rights before its release.

The film is a biographical action drama by film-maker Sashi Kiran Tikka which is based on the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, an army official who was killed in the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Unnikrishnan was consequently awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime gallantry award, on January 26, 2009.

The film stars Adivi Sesh as Unnikrishnan. ‘Major’ marks Sesh’s Hindi film debut. The biography drama also stars Sobhita Dhulipala and Saiee Manjrekar.
