Gujarat: Chemical factory on farm busted | Ahmedabad News – Times of India

AHMEDABAD: The special operations group (SOG) of Gandhinagar police on Thursday busted an industrial unit producing copper sulfate at an open farm in Kalol town and charged two men from Ahmedabad, the owners of the unit, with endangering human life.
According to an FIR filed with Kalol city police, SOG received an input that some persons were running a chemical manufacturing and processing unit behind KIRC College on Mangalmurti Farm Road in Kalol town.
An SOG team reached the spot and found a factory being run under a tin shed on a farm. Police officers said they found some labourers working at the factory, who told police that the unit was owned by two men from Ahmedabad: Meet Patel and Mihir Patel.
SOG officers said they found 31 barrels at the farm with 200 litres of an acidic liquid. Police said the workers were illegally processing copper with sulphuric acid.
They could not produce a licence for the factory, said a police officer.
The workers would make small pits in the farm in which they filled the acid, said SOG PI V D Vala.
