I would never want to play a bahu on TV: Maheck Chahal – Times of India

Maheck Chahal, who has done Bollywood as well as TV projects, believes that actors need to look beyond glamour. The actress, who was in town for an event, is also all praise for OTT platforms. She told us, “People put actors in a certain category and do not want to look beyond that even if the actors want to break the image. I have always got offers to play glam roles, but I feel that as actors, it’s not our duty to always look glamorous. We should come up with content which is close to reality and generates audience interest.”

‘I am keen to do a web series’

Maheck is eager to do a good OTT project. She says, “I am very keen to do a web series, and it’s not because every other actor is doing it. I have done both Bollywood and TV but now, I am attracted to doing web series as there are stories which the viewers feel connected to. The content being shown is not social dramas or kitchen politics, but subjects like crime, thriller, suspense, adventure, and more are being explored and no genre is left untouched. Be it the story, screenplay or characters, everything is well taken care of. The makers are ready to experiment with a wide variety of subjects. Also, there are women-oriented stories in web series, and I am looking forward to doing something substantial.”

‘I chose to do Naagin 6 because it’s different from regular family dramas’
On TV, Maheck is currently seen in Naagin 6. She is not interested in doing saas-bahu shows. “I don’t think I would ever want to play a bahu on TV. I opted to do Naagin 6 because it’s completely different from the regular family dramas. I always wanted to come back to TV with a meaty and substantial role. Today when I meet people, especially children, I feel amazed to get so much love. I feel happy when they talk about my role as a shape-shifting snake and performing stunts. I feel thrilled with this kind of appreciation and feel loved.”

‘Reality shows taught me the importance of mental toughness’

Maheck, who has also done reality shows like Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 11 and Bigg Boss 5, says that her experience on both these shows was an eye-opener. “I was very overconfident about myself before doing Khatron… My stint in the show made me realise that being physically fit does not make you perfect. A person needs to be emotionally and mentally fit too. I have always been active in sports and felt that I am completely fit. But after entering that show, I realised that mental toughness is equally important and one needs to work towards building mental resilience too,” she shares.
