In jolt to Congress in Rajasthan, Bhartiya Tribal Party to abstain from Rajya Sabha polls | India News – Times of India

JAIPUR: Bhartiya Tribal Party (BTP) Rajasthan president Vela Ram Ghogra on Wednesday said his party has decided to abstain from voting in the Rajya Sabha elections in the state. This would jolt Congress, which was banking on 13 Independents, two CPM and two BTP MLAs for the victory of its three candidates.
Gujarat-based BTP entered Rajasthan in the 2018 state elections and presently it has two MLAs, Rajkumar Roat (Chorasi) and Ram Prasad Dindor (Sagwara). In the 2020 Rajya Sabha polls, BTP had supported Congress candidates and was part of the state government before it walked out of the arrangement.
“The governing Congress has cheated BTP and the tribal people. Our support to them was conditional on the 17-point promises/demands related to the welfare of the tribals, but none was fulfilled. This is the reason we had walked out of the government and for the same reason we will not support them,” said Ghogra. The party will hold a meeting on June 9 to formally announced the same.
The party has also ruled out supporting either BJP or any Independent candidate. “Our party nationally is against the policies of BJP. We can never support them for their anti-tribal stand, thus we’re left with no option but to abstain from voting on June 10,” said Ghogra.
