Jaismine Lamboriya: Mere baal kaafi lambe thay, par boxing training ke liye katva diye | Off the field News – Times of India

She grew up listening to stories of boxing from her uncles and before anyone could decide her career path for her, Jaismine Lamboriya had told her family that she wanted to take up boxing. Jaismine, who secured a bronze medal in women’s 60kg lightweight division of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, in Birmingham this year, was in the city recently. Talking about her performance at the Games, she said, “ Thodi si disappointment hui. Thodi si kami reh gayi, utna achha shayad nahi dikha payi.”
Jaismine, who started boxing in 2016, adds, “My uncles were also boxers. Sandeep, my chacha ji, was also an international boxer. Main unke medals dekhti thi, woh baatein batate thay competition aur training ki, wahan se laga mujhe bhi game karna chahiye. Everyone in my family was happy when I told them about my decision, but my grandfather was apprehensive initially. At that time, PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik were making the country proud with their medals so my chacha ji told my grandfather, ‘ Yeh bhi ek dinitna achha karegi.’ He told him that he will take care of me and then my grandfather agreed. I started training after that. It was difficult to train and have a proper diet as my father didn’t have enough money. It was my coaches who helped me with everything,” she says.

She regrets that her grandfather couldn’t see her winning medals for the country. “He would have been proud. This is only the beginning, I know what I need to do to improve my game,” she adds. The boxer from Bhiwani adds that she never thought about anything else once she was sure that she wanted to be a boxer. “ Mere baal kaafi lambe thay, par training mein humesha aage aa jate thay. So, my chacha ji told me, ‘ Aise hi baalon mein time waste karte rahoge. Baad mein badha lena’. Phir meri bua ji le gayin mujhe baal katvane ke liye. My mother was worried, but the next day when I woke up, I told her, ‘ Mere 10 minute bachh gaye training se pehle’,” she says.
