Matrimonial ad goes viral for caveat ‘software engineers, do not call’

Software engineers are often seen as sought-after professionals even on matchmaking sites, but this matrimonial ad by a woman suggests otherwise

A copy of the ad going viral on social media showed an MBA graduate from a rich family calling for proposals from civil servants , doctors etc, but with a rare caveat: “Software engineers kindly do not call.”

“A fair MBA beautiful girl from a rich family business background is looking for a groom. The groom should either be an IAS/IPS, a working doctor, or an industrialist, from the same caste. Software engineers do not call,” the ad said.

The line in the ad sparked a flurry of reactions after Twitter user Samir Arora shared it with the caption, “Future of IT does not look so sound”.

One Twitter user said, “Looking at the ad, the whole country’s future doesn’t look so sound.”

Another user raised the bankers’ pain, saying “the banker was not even considered worthy of discussion.”

Even some found relief, “Looking at these I would say Software engineers can mark themselves as Safe. May God be with those IAS/IPS/Doctors/Business Men who will be interviewed by these cringe elements and full sympathy for the one who will be Shortlisted. ”

One user said, “This has been the case for more than a decade now…but news timing with Down Trend adds to fear…”

Another user pointed that, “Pretty sure that 99.9% of software engineers within the range of 24-32 are not reading newspaper. Even if you try to find a software engineer, you simply can’t. Good luck”

The date of publishing of the ad cannot be ascertained but one user said, it is a 7-year-old ad but still a ‘classic’.
