There’s ‘jungle raj’, ‘tanashahi’ in Bengal: Central BJP Panel

A committee of central BJP leaders formed to look into the Kolkata violence on Saturday said “jungle raj” and “tanashahi” prevail in West Bengal under chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

The five-member committee, constituted by the party’s national president, JP Nadda, is in the state capital to take stock of the situation after the BJP’s protest march in the city earlier this week turned violent and led to clashes with the police. It is likely to submit its report to Nadda on Sunday.

One of the leaders said the BJP will give the Trinamool Congress a “befitting reply” in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

“In Bengal, ‘jungle-raj’ prevails and ‘tanashahi’ and cut-money culture predominates,” said Brijlal, a member of the committee and convener of Uttar Pradesh‘s BJP unit, said. “Mamata Banerjee-ruled government is giving fake cases against BJP workers. The ‘tanashahi will not continue and the people of Bengal will teach you a lesson. We will give a befitting reply in 2024.”
