UP: Four,including 2 girls,drown in Ganga in Fatehpur | Allahabad News – Times of India

PRAYAGRAJ: Four people, including two girls aged between 15 and 22 years, were drowned while swimming in the river Ganga at village Matinpur under the limits of Husainganj police station of Fatehpur district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Jainav (18) of Sultanpur Ghosh, Faizan (22) of Husainganj, Mohd Saif (20) of Husainganj and Sophiya (15) of Jamrava.
Three others, including Amreen (18) of Bakarganj, Anas (19) of Bakandha and Anas (22) of Husainganj were rescued by local swimmers and boatmen. The incident, as per police officials, took place at around 11am.
The incident, as per police, took place at around 11am when a group of seven people, including two girls, had gone for swimming and mistakenly went into deep water and started drowning.
However, one of them raised an alarm. On seeing them drowning, local swimmers and boatmen jumped into the river and managed to take three of them out of the river. Unfortunately, the swimmers could not save four others from drowning. Upon being alerted, a team of Husainganj police along with swimmers rushed to the spot and fished out the bodies of the four persons. Station officer (Husainganj) told TOI that many guests had come to one Amre Hasan’s house to attend his daughter’s wedding at Matinpur village on Monday night. “While some of the guests returned to their native villages, others decided to enjoy swimming in the river Ganga, a few meters away from the wedding site,” he added.
However, while enjoying swimming, all the seven went into deep water and started drowning. Bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
