Xiaomi 12 Ultra likely to sport Leica camera, smartphone giant announces tie-up with German company

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has announced that it will be partnering with German camera maker Leica. The brand has said that the first flagship smartphone from this collaboration will be launched in July this year.

The German company has been known to collaborate with tech brands such as

and Huawei in the past. However, this is not the first time a Chinese smartphone maker is collaborating with a European company to enhance its camera capabilities. Earlier, OnePlus and OPPO partnered with Swedish company Hasselblad.

Xiaomi, in a press release, announced its long-term cooperation with Leica to develop camera technologies for its upcoming flagship smartphones. In its statement, the Chinese smartphone brand said that both the companies share similar ideas on mobile imaging systems. According to Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, the partnership will enhance the company’s imaging strategy.

“Xiaomi focuses on creating the ultimate user experience and has always hoped to explore the capabilities of smartphone photography to the extreme. Xiaomi and Leica agree with each other’s pursuits and ideas and appreciate each other’s advantages and industry. This cooperation will provide a strong boost to Xiaomi’s imaging strategy” said Lei Jun, founder, chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group.

Xiaomi’s latest launch was its premium smartphone which was launched on April 27. The smartphone comes with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip and its triple-rear camera module is headlined by a 50MP primary camera. The latest offering from the Chinese smartphone brand is available on Xiaomi’s official website and on the e-commerce giant Amazon.
